Interstate Park
Interstate State Park map pdf file
September 18th
This time we did not camp but we did go hiking. Interstate Park is on Hwy 8 and off to the right of the road before you come to Taylor's Falls, Minnesota.
The park is situated on the St Croix River. It appears that this park is a favorite for campers as its close to the Twin Cities metro area. From the Minneapolis, St Paul area the drive is only about 45 mins to an hour. This does make for a convenient get away. Even being so close to the cities one does get the feeling of being out in the forest with all the many different varieties of trees and undergrowth. While there you can hear the sounds of the river and many birds. You might even get a glimpse of a fox or deer while there.
As we hiked around the grounds we saw many things that would interest an outdoors person to do. Not only the climbing on rocks around the water area but you can rent canoes there. The day that we were there the river was quiet and calm. Perfect for learning or perfecting your canoeing abilities. You can always rent a fishing boat and spend hours trying your luck and see who can catch the largest fish. You will also find a large playground for smaller children to scurry about and use up some of their energy. There are touring paddle boats that go up and down the river to give you a spectacular view of the river. If hiking is your thing the trails here are easy to moderate in physical abilities. On the eastern end of the park you will find Taylor's Falls. The town is an older town with many possibilities to explore if you are looking for things to do.
